IIT Council in its meeting has taken a decision to increase the percentage of marks from 60 to 80 in the XII th standard.
This will be effective from the year 2011.
This decision has been taken to make the students concentrate even in the intermedicate.
Till now, students were mainly concentrating only on the IIT rank and were giving preference to the coaching than the regular Intermediate.
Now, students have to concentrate on both, if they want to get the seat in IIT, as the eligibility will be for the students who get more than 80%.

Yeah, It really a good step taken by the IIT Council. Otherwise, Students prepare more for IIT-JEE and neglect their regular studies.

Yeah,It is good from one point of view but I think that those who are capable of cracking JEE would easily score more than 80% and even 90% if they study a few days before exams as the portions are similar for both IPE and JEE. But any way this is a good step from IIT's point of view because nowadays many are not able to get passed out IIT's which is a shame for IIT's.

Forgot one thing that it is easy to score more than 80% in AP's board and not in other boards .So,eventually this turns out to be a good step taken by IIT's. Swaroop, Gold Member, AndhraSpider.com

A very correct move by IIT management to take students who crossed 80% in board exams. But it will be benifited by students of our state board only.Other boards are a bit tough to get through this cut off.Hope our students rock in IIT-JEE using this great opportunity.

Hi friends, No,I think this is not a right move by the IIT council because some boards are strict at correcting examination papers like they need the entire stuff that is present in the textbook as an answer to a particular question. In Andhra exams give preference to theoritical stuff than problem oriented. So,in my view the step will be good if the question papers will be a bit problematical. Some people will find it difficult to produce entire textbook thing even they know the entire concept. Also in the Andhra Pradesh point of view this step is very encouraging as it is very easy to score 80% here and from the entire India point of view this is not an encouraging step.
