    Belum Caves

    Belum Caves are the second largest natural caves in India after Meghalaya Caves and interestingly they are the longest caves in plains of India. Their geographical location is at Belum village in Kolimigundla Mandal of Kurnool District. One more interesting fact about them is they did not came into existence till 1884 and remained unnoticed for almost a century till a German team explored them in 1982 and 1983.They have 3 well like cavities.
    Main sections of Belum caves are Simhadwaram, Kotilingalu Chamber, Patalaganga, Saptasvarala Guha or Musical Chamber, Dhyan Mandir or Meditation Hall, Thousand Hoods, Banyan Tree Hall and Banyan Tree Hall.The centerd well like cavity is the main entrance to these caves which you can see in the below photos
    The musical chamber has its own importance as it produces musical sounds when these are struck with a wooden stick (this may sound very interesting).Meditation Hall has got bed like structures where the Jains and Buddhists monks were occupying them ages past ( This was in accordance with the history).
