    Coringa wild life sanctuary is a unique wild life sanctuary as it contains both sea and land animals. It is a dream world for bird lovers with more than 130 species within the green Godavari Mangroove Forest.


    Andhra Pradesh's Coringa Wild Life Sanctuary is a 235sq.km spread wild life conservating project located in between the cities of Kakinada and Rajahmundry. Lying within the greenery of the Godavari Mangroves it is a unique and beautiful site and the fact that we can see the sea's back waters makes it more and more stunning.

    Fauna at Coringa Wild Life Sanctuary



    Due combined presence of both back waters of sea and land, this sanctuary is a shelter to both sea and land animals.

    Sea-related : Crabs, Turtles, See-gulls, Flemingos, Seawater Crocodiles, Fishing Cats

    Land Related : Crocodiles and various reptiles; Mudskippers, mullusks

    The salt-water crocodiles hold as a key attraction to this sanctuary along with many of the extinting species of reptiles.

    The sanctuary is also a host for about 130 species of birds. Some of them are:
    1) Ducks
    2) Crested Serpent Eagle
    3) Scarlet Minivet,
    4) Indian Roller
    5) Black Capped Kingfisher
    6) Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher
    7) White bellied Woodpecker
    It is a can be called as a heaven for bird lovers

    Flora at Coringa Wild Life Sanctuary



    It consists of 24 families of Mangroove plantation which in turn consists of 35 species of the same. Due to their tolerancy to saline water, mangroves only occur in a tropical and some of the sub-tropical areas. The Mangroove trees in this sanctuary are said to be slightly different as they consist of typical variety of sub-branches.

    The various kinds of grasses include:
    1) Dalbagia spinosa
    2) Derris trifoliate
    3) Acanthus ilicifolius
    4) Clerodendrum inerme
    5) Suaeda maritima
    6) Suaeda monoica
    7) Porteresia coarctata
    8) Myriostachya wightiana

    In the month of July, 1978 the then park was declared to be a Sanctuary with the sole motto to conserving the typical flora and fauna in the area especially the mangrove vegetation.

    How to Reach?
    Coringa Wild Life Sanctuary is well connected by buses from Kakinada and Rajahmundry.

    Distance from Kakinada: 20 kms
    Distance from Rajahmundry : 70 kms

    You can reach these cities:

    By bus : both the cities are well connected to everywhere in the state by bus.

    By train : It is better to reach Rajahmundry railway station even though Kakinada is the nearest station as Kakinada does not have good frequency of trains.

    By flight: Rajahmundry is the nearest airport.

    Water: Kakinada is the nearest port.

    Accomodation : Forest rest houses are made available by the government at Coringa or else you can stay at any of the lodges or hotels in Kakinada.

    Climate:
    • dry, hot, and humid weather
    • average rainfall : 2.5mm per year.
    • Maximum temperature ( Summer ): 47 °C
    • Minimum temperature (Winter) : 14 °C

    Best time to Visit:
    October to May is the best time to visit the Coringa Wild Life Sanctuary.
