    Eturnagaram wild life sanctuary is one of the oldest wild life sanctuaries in Andhra Pradesh. Located about 55km from Warangal it falls in the region where Andhra Pradesh, Maharastra and Madya Pradesh meet. It has a rich collection of teak plantation.


    Andhra Pradesh's Eturnagaram wild life sanctuary is a 812sq.km spread wild life conservating project located at a distance of 55km from the district of Warangal, just at the region where the three states: Andhra Pradesh, Maharastra and Madya Pradesh meet. It has a rich and dense collection of flora and fauna. Unlike in the coastal region, three-quarters of the santctuary land is plain area and only one-forths of it is hilly and is full of small water streams.

    "Dayyam Vagu" a water stream that splits the sanctuary into nearly two equal halfs adds glory to the place. It is the major water source for all the animals and birds in the Sanctuary.

    The presence of tree fossils in the region brings in a scope of historical botanical studies of the Deccan region.

    Fauna at Eturnagaram Wild Life Sanctuary



    This sanctuary is a shelter to various species of animals. Some of them include:

    1) Tiger
    2) Leopard
    3) Panther
    4) Chausingha
    5) Wolf
    6) Wild dogs
    7) Black buck
    8) Nilgai
    9) Four horned antelope
    10) Chinkara, spotted deer
    11) Sambar and giant squirrels

    The last five have been listed in the endangered species list and thus this sanctuary takes a lot of effort in conservation them.There are also many form of reptiles living in this Sanctuary like:

    1) crocodiles
    2) python
    3) cobra
    4) kraite
    5) star

    Flora at Eturnagaram Wild Life Sanctuary



    The land of Eturnagaram Sanctuary being an undulating one the primary vegetation is of tropical dry deciduous type. This region is quite famous for its teak plantaion with teak trees of height more than 60feet covering the whole place.One more specialty of the place are the climbers. Nearly the whole sanctury is covered by climbers.

    Some of the other trees include:
    1) Bamboo
    2) Madhuca
    3) Terminalia
    4) Pterocarpus

    It is established in 1952 with the sole motto of conserving the rich vegetation and bio-diversity.

    How to Reach?

    Eturnagaram Wild Life Sanctuary is well connected by buses from Warangal.
    By bus : Wild Life Sanctuary is well connected by buses from Warangal.
    By train : Kazipet and Warangal are nearest railway stations. The sanctuary is 100 km from there.
    By flight: Hyderabad is the nearest airport. The Sanctuary is about 250km fro there.

    Climate:
    • hot and dry throughout the year
    • average rainfall : 8-10 cm per year
    • Maximum temperature ( Summer ): 44 °C

    Best time to Visit:
    October to April is the best time to visit the Eturnagaram Wild Life Sanctuary. It is better to take accommodation in Warangal and go for a one day trip from there.
