Saina Nehwal gets Khel Ratna Award

Recently rated No.2 in the world rankings Saina Nehwal has been selected for the Rajiv Gandhi Ratna Khel Award.

India and especially Hyderabad is proud to have their best badminton player to get selected for the Rajiv Ghandi Khel Ratna Award. This is the highest award that can be achieved by any sports person in the country. The award includes scroll of honour, a medal and Rs 7.5 lakhs of cash prize.

Saina Nehwal gets Khel Ratna Award

She truly deserves the appreciation as she has won three titles back to back : Indian Open, Singapore Super Series and Indonesia Super Series. This young Indian Charm is the only Indian who has ranked no.2 in the world's list of Badminton players. She has received few other awards before like the Arjuna Award and the Padmashri Award in August 2009 and January 2010 respectively. But this award is going to be completely a new level of milestone achievment for this young sports queen. She is the second badminton player to get this award only after his coach Khel Ratna. Gopichand who achieved the same award in 2001.

The award will be presented by President Pratibha Patil in a special ceremony which will be conducted on August 29, 2010.
