Andhra on Fire : Telangana Demands over Group-I Examinations

APPSC had decided to conduct the Group-I Recruitment Examinations on September 5th, 2010. But Telangana activists presented a couple of demands just a week before the exam and wanted them to be implemented before the exam was conducted. This resource gives the details of the Telangana Demands over the Group-I exams.

Andhra Pradesh Group-I Exams and Respective Telangana Demands

Andhra Pradesh Group-1examinations have become sensational news in AP . The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) has planned to conduct the exam on 5th September, 2010. This was not a decision made before a week. A notification for the same was released in 2008 and a supplementary notification in 2009. There was no regional reservation announced then. No one protested when the announcements came. But suddenly a week before the exams all the Telangana Leaders start protesting for postponing the exam.

Conducting an exam takes lot of money and Telangana Leaders are targeting to waste the State's revenue. They could have protested long ago when the exam preparations have not yet started and no money is yet spent. Stopping an exam now wastes all the money that has been spent over the Examinations and re-conducting the exam requires all the things to be done again.

The Coastal Andhra and Rayala Seema people totally wanted the exam to happen in order to make sure the Telangana people learn their lesson. The Group 1 examinations were supposed to be conducted on August 29th, 2010. But due to a clash with another private recruiting exam the date was postponed to 5th September.

APPSC chairman Y Venkatarami Reddy clearly mentioned "There is no room for any doubt over the conduct of the examination. It will be held as per schedule,"
About one and a half lakh candidates appear for this exam. Last minute decisions are never taken for such huge examinations. Still Telangana people wont listen.

    Demands of Telangana Activists

The major demands of Telangana Activists and Leaders are :
    1) 42 % reservation for Telangana Candidates in Group I posts .
    2) Suspension of APPSC chairman Y Venkatarami Raddy should be suspended as they think he has been partial toward the Seemandhra people in the Group I examinations.

Chief Minister Rosiah is nowhere visible. He should have made a stand himself and just orders everyone to calm down. He isn't talking. Both the major parties in Andhra Pradesh – Congress and Telugu Desam have internally split-up for the issue and none of them are making a single stand.

Telangana Bandh - Group 1 Exams

The exam was conducted under tight security, with security personnals not only at the entrance gate of centres but also in the rooms where exam is held. Many feel such kind of examination is anyway not valid so the exam should be conducted again. The Group-1paper was brought out of the centre at the Osmania University and displayed to the media just after an hour of the start time of the exam. Many feel this is another reason why the exam should be re-conducted. Since the paper came out before the exam ended the answers might have flown through the Bluetooth technology and may have aided Hi-Tech copying.

Fight for Telangana was supposed to be 'Ahimsavadi' until December 31st as stated by TRS president K.Chandrashekar Rao. But the acts of Telangana students gives us a different story. They initially told that they will be boycotting the exam in case it is not postponed and their demands are not considered. But instead of simple boycotting they went protesting they tried to enter the examination centres and snatch exam papers and Answers Sheets. They burned the answer sheets, leaked the paper before the end time and created lots of problems for those who wanted to write the exams.

The examination has been videographed so all the trouble makers will be caught and punished.

Will the exam be re-conducted? Will all the trouble-makers be arrested? Will the reservartion be granted? We have to wait and see.

All opinions in this resource are my personal opinions.
