    Plans for Second major Port in Andhra Pradesh

    Chief Minister after a meeting with the officials of National Shipping board decided to appeal the central Government for a new port in Andhra Pradesh. This Resource gives the details of the New Port, Location of New port and reasons for forming new port in Andhra Pradesh.


    Andhra Pradesh may soon get its second major port along with a Shipyard. This port will be ranked second to Visakhapatnam port.

    This decision was the conclusion of a meeting that was held on 10th November, 2010 between Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K.Rosaiah, Captain P.V.K.Mohan, chairman, National Shipping Board and Ajeya Kallam, chairman, Visakhapatnam Port Trust and few more Shipping executives. Rosaiah will write to the Central Government regarding the same.

    Location of the New Port in Andhra Pradesh:
    Selection procedure of as suitable site for the new port of Andhra Pradesh has started. The new port is likely lo be located between the present port Visakhapatnam and Kakinada.

    Need and Advantages of a Second Port in Andhra Pradesh:
    The main reason for developing a new port in Andhra Pradesh is to facilitate the Petroleum, Chemical and Petro-Chemical Investment Region (PCPIR) which is going to be developed in between Visakhapatnam and Kakinada.
    As an added advantage of this new port, it would create nearly 25000 job vacancies.
