Karimnagar district is formed with Karimnagar city as district headquarter. Karimnagar is named after Syed Kareemuddin who builted it.

Karimnagar is geographically located between 17deg 51'- 19deg 5' north latitude and 78deg 29' - 80deg 22' east latitude.

Borders:

East - Madhya Pradesh state

West - Nizamabad District

North - Godavari River

South - Medak District

History:
Karimnagar was ruled by Kakatiyas, Chalukyas, Moghalais and Golconda Nawabs. It has been ruled by 600 yrs by non telugu speaking rulers after kakatiyas. Till 1905 it was called as "Sarkar Ellandala" and later called as karimnagar.

Kaleshwaram: This is one of the Saiva Kshetras in Andhra pradesh and One of the Jyotirlingas. Sri Mukteswara alayam is very famous here. Godavari merges with one of its tributaries pranahita here. Nearest town to Kaleswaram is Manthani located at 30 kilometers.

Vemulawada: This is also a Holy shrine of Lord Shiva. Vemulawada has lot of temples along with famous Rajarajeshwara Swamy temple. It is located at 26 KM distant from Karimnagar.

Bejjanki: Bejjanki village is located nearly at 40KM distant from Karimnagar. Lord Narasimhaswamy temple told to be from Kakatiya's regime is famous here.

Dharmapuri: Located on the banks of Godavari river. Temple of Lord Narasimha Swamy is famous here.
