Pochampally is a village in Andhra Pradesh, which is known for their beautiful weaves, all over the world. Ikkat is the name for the spectacular handiwork of the people here at Pochampally and it is the largest center for the work of Ikkat. Ikkat is a method of weaving in which the dye is applied prior to the threads being woven to create the final fabric pattern or design.
Pochampally village and the Ikkat are the result of the Bhoodan movement by Acharya Vinoba Bhavein the year 1951. The land was donated by Vedre Ramachandra Reddy and from there Bhoodan Movement was started by Vinobaji. Hence the name 'Bhoodan Pochampally', because it was the first village to be created by this movement. The place has been declared a Model Village due to its cleanliness and civic amenities.

The consumer and weaver interactions have provided great inputs and the weavers started adapting according to the new traditions and tastes of the consumers. from telia rumals bedsheets which they were weaving earlier started weaving dress materials and sarees and from cotton to silk and then to sico/ silkcotton.
Recently Chenetha Gurukulam has been started to teach others how the ancient art is done and developed. Experienced Gurus who are known as Master Weavers teach the entire process of weaving from the start to the end that is ready to wear condition. There are different programs with multiple course durations. Even the tourists who come visiting the village can learn something in this dream of a spot Pochampally and explore the Villages and Culture in India.
