Nehru Zoological park is a national level wild life mini sanctuary cum Zoo park was established in vide G.O.Ms. No.247, on date 26th October 1959 on the name after Pandit JawaharLal Nehru, a freedom fighter and the first prime minister of India . It is also known as Hyderabad Zoo. It is locted at near Mir Alam Tank of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. Hyderabad Zoo is operated by the forest ministry of Government of Andhra Pradesh. The area of zoo is 380 acres and it is the largest zoo in India and also one of the most visited places in Hyderabad.

One can visit the zoo at their free time in the day as the zoo is mostly opened for eight hours almost at every season. But the timings may vary from season to season. The zoo is closed on Mondays. One can visit the zoo from Tuesday to Sunday of every week.

Animals present in Hyderabad Nehru Zoological Park

The Hyderabad zoo consists of more than 250 species of animals, birds, amphibians, fishes and reptiles. One can visit the safari parks in specialized vehicles where visitors will have the opportunity to see wild animals like tigers, lions, bears, and bison in their natural habitat ie not in the grills. The animal treasure of Hyderabad zoo would consist of Lions, Tigers, White tigers,Panthers,Leopards,Cheetah,Rhino,Hippopotamus,Sea Horse,Girafee, Bears,Crocodile,Python,Deers,Peacocks and Antelopes. The animals of this zoo are some times taken to other zoo's and sanctuaries and thus animals would be placed on a rotation basis. So you can see some more animals here.

The management of Zoo provides various packages for the visitors at reasonable costs.The different facilities and their costs were as follows: The entrance ticket is Rs 20 for adults and Rs 10 for children. We can have train ride, boating, elephant ride here. That will be a wonderful experience for us. The safari trip will be different from others and it is where you can have a closer look of animals at their natural habitats. A car or our own vehicle can be taken inside at a cost of Rs 500. There is an accommodation facility in the zoo park itself and we can have a camera inside by paying some fee. The snake park and Nocturnal parks are most attractive ones in the zoo. The vast space , grassy land and trees makes the visitors an pleasant experience.

How to reach Hyderabad Nehru Zoological Park

The Nehru Zoological Park is located next to the Mir Alam Tank in the South-West corner of the city of Hyderabad. One can reach Hyderabad by Airway or Road way or through Railway. One need to catch a bus going to Bahadurpura of Hyderabad that passes through Charminar or one can hire a taxi or auto to reach Nehru Zoological park. The fares per person from secunderabad will be as follows
1.Through bus Rs 40/- in a special bus.
2.Taxi fare will be generally Rs 12-15 per Kilometre.

Precautions to be taken in zoo
• Do not pluck the flowers and plants
• Do not use plastic inside zoo.
• Do not feed animals.
• Do not make animals scared by shouting.
• Be ware don't go too near the cage of animal.
